Old stone village pub with low ceilings, beams, a fireplace at each end of an attractive long bar, and a games room housing a TV. There is an adjoining skittle alley. Excellent quality ales and good-value snacks makes a visit to this friendly pub well worthwhile. At the heart of most village activities this really is a true community pub.

Spacious Free House with large car park and beer garden on the A30 / A357 cross roads (traffic lights). Attractive bar area, and overall has a small country-pub feel but with room to cater for the larger parties, which they do comfortably. Did Sir Walter really smoke tobacco here? Unknown; but he did spend time at Sherborne Castle just a few miles away. The much-lamented Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway ran past just a couple hundred yards East, and in fact the first meeting of the directors was held here in October 1862. Nevertheless an excellent pub with efficient and friendly staff, and up to four ales. Breakfast served 7.30 to 10.30 every day.

It is commonly supposed that the name 'Tippling Philosopher' may be apportioned to Robert Boyle, of Boyle's Law fame, who held court in the alehouse. The name was changed to the Kings' Head to celebrate the visit of George III in 1804, even though the inn was still called "The Tipplers" in some circles. Judge Jefferys was known to have used the dining room on several occasions. In 1927 the modern skittle alley and function room were built. The original name was put back into place in July 1998 and the pub continues to serve the local community.
